The British High Commission in India is inviting applications from young women aged 18 to 23 to be the “High Commissioner for a Day”. This is a unique opportunity for young women to experience the work of a British diplomat and to share their ideas on how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The winner of the competition will spend a day shadowing the British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis. They will meet with government officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives. They will also have the opportunity to give a speech on the SDGs.

The competition is open to all Indian women aged 18 to 23. To apply, you must record and upload a one-minute video answering the following question: “How can young people help lead the way in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals?” You must share the video on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn by tagging @UKinIndia and using the hashtag #DayOfTheGirl.

The deadline to apply is 18 August 2023. The winner will be announced on 11 October, which is the International Day of the Girl Child.

This competition is a great opportunity for young women in India to learn about diplomacy and to make their voices heard. It is also a chance to celebrate the achievements of girls and women in India and around the world.

The British High Commission is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women. This competition is one way that the High Commission is working to achieve this goal.

We encourage all eligible young women to apply for this exciting opportunity.
